Robert Nagel, music director and first trumpet of the influential New York Brass Quintet (active 1954-1984) once said, "If the creative aspect is not there in the repertoire, it [the brass quintet] will die a slow death. It’s not the performers; it’s the creators and composers that provide us with our product." The ABCMA understands the importance of continuing to build a repertoire and keep brass chamber music a viable genre for composers to explore. To that end, the ABCMA has been involved with several commissioning projects to advance the creation of the brass chamber music.
